“First Mondays” Swannanoa Area Community Engagement Market launches
A new Buncombe County Community Engagement Market has launched in Swannanoa to help address food insecurity following Hurricane Helene and the loss of the local grocery store.
In partnership with Asheville Christian Academy, MANNA Food Bank, and ABIPA, the market will provide free food and additional resources as available, on the first Monday of every month 4:30 p.m. until 6 p.m. (or until supplies run out).
The first market takes place on Monday, April 7. Thanks to a new partnership with Asheville Christian Academy at 74 Riverwood Rd., it will be in the gravel parking lot, on the grassy spot on the east side of the campus facing Riverwood Road.
Community engagement markets serve as opportunities for our neighbors to access healthy food and connections to County and community resources.
The Health and Human Services Mobile Health team will also be on site. The BCHHS Mobile Team offers the following services:
Immunization/Vaccine Reviews and Record Printouts (Children and Adults)
Free Immunizations: Insurance accepted but not required
Influenza/Flu (ages 6+ months)
COVID (ages 12+)
Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis)
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Mpox
Shingles (age 50+): Requires insurance or Patient Assistance (application available)
Rapid Testing (HIV, Hepatitis C, Syphilis)
STI Testing (Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Hepatitis B)
Harm Reduction Services & Resources
Peer Support Services
Connections to Local Health and Social Service Resources
Health Education
