Status of Buncombe County parks (as of June 14, 2025)
Lake Julian Park
Many Buncombe County Parks were impacted by Hurricane Helene. While the County is working diligently to reopen parks as quickly as they can, some parks currently remain closed for safety reasons.
Open County Parks as of June 14, 2025
Lake Julian Park (please note, some disc golf holes remain closed), Hominy Valley Park, Collier Cove Nature Preserve, North Buncombe Fields, Cane Creek Playground, Buncombe County Sports Park, Corcoran Paige River Park, Bent Creek River Park, and Hominy Creek River Park.
If you choose to recreate on the river, you are strongly encouraged to be aware of changes on streambanks and in the riverbed and the potential for unknown debris from Helene.
Closed County Parks as of June 14, 2025
Charles D. Owen Park, Karpen Soccer Field, Alexander River Park, Walnut Island River Park, Ledges Whitewater Park, and Glen Bridge River Park*.
*Note, if the gate is open at Glen Bridge River Park, it may be used. For safety reasons, the public is asked not to enter closed parks.
