New temporary trash pick-up solution announced for scout truck route

A message from the Public Works department, Town of Black Mountain

As of today, the temporary dumpster service at Terry Estate Drive has ceased operation, and the dumpster has been removed. This service was put into place following Hurricane Helene and was intended to provide short-term relief to those who live along the scout truck routes.

If you have been utilizing the dumpsters, you will now need to bring your bagged trash to the nearest main road on the morning of your pick-up.

This is only a temporary trash pick-up solution. The Town is working to get sanitation pick-up along these scout routes back to normal; however, this is taking some time. Please read the updated guidelines below on this temporary trash collection method. Thank you.

Do’s & Don’ts

  • DO place bagged trash at the nearest main road used by sanitation trucks on the morning of your pick-up. If your bagged trash is inside a trash cart, you may use the cart to roll it out to that nearest road.

  • If you are unsure which main road is nearest to you along the sanitation truck route, DO call the Black Mountain Sanitation Department at 828-419-9300, option 4.

  • DO NOT set your trash out on the main road the night before pick-up. This will help reduce risk of attracting wildlife.

  • DO NOT bring bagged trash, or trash of any kind, to Terry Estate Drive parking lot and leave it in the parking lot. The dumpsters are no longer there. This is considered littering.

  • DO NOT dump loose trash along the sides of roads, in the woods, or public spaces. This is also considered littering.

For additional questions, please contact the Sanitation Department at 828-419-9300, option 4. There's currently a high call volume, so if you have to leave a voicemail, please be sure to state your name, address, call-back number, and a short message. A department representative will call you back.

Your patience is greatly appreciated, and your cooperation during this period will ensure that the Town is able to collect residential trash in a timely manner. Thank you.
